Faudel - My Country / Mon Pays

Faudel - My Country

I don't know this sun
that burns the endless dunes
I don't know other land
Except the one who gave me a hand
And if one day I leave from here
And I cross the desert
To go to see where my life comes from
In which streets my father used to play
I, who was born near Paris
Under all this wind, all this rain
I will never forget my country
never my country

And if tomorow, like today
I need to go around the world
To sing my desires
And travel for years
I, who was born so close to here
Even if I leave my friends
I will never forget my country

Too many memories carved
From the schoolyard and from summers
Too much love to forget
That I was born here
Too much time abandonned
On the benches of my ghetto
Too many friends to forget
that this is here I was born
that this is here I was born

I don't know this perfume
of mint and burning sand
But only spindrifts
under the rolling waves of the ocean
And you, you think I'm a little dark skin
for these streets lined with meadows
A little too white, color of Euphrat
For these poems that I learnt
You're the only one I forget
As the star, faithful to the night
I will never forget my country
Never my country

Too many memories carved
From the schoolyard and summers
Too much love to forget
That I was born here
Too much time abandonned
On the benches of my ghetto
Too many friends to forget
that this is here I was born
that this is here I was born

And like you I'm waiting for the rain
to tell it all my sorrows
Like you, I smile at it
When it falls above the field
When it falls above the field

Too many memories carved
From the schoolyard and summers
Too much love to forget
That I was born here
Too much time abandonned
On the benches of my ghetto
Too many friends to forget
that this is here I was born
that this is here I was born

Faudel - Mon Pays

Asmahan - O Birds O birds Sing of my love and chant my passion and hopes To the one who is right beside me not paying attention to what's happening to me (i.e. in her love) I complain to him and he smiles and makes me grow fonder of him O birds Describe him my state of sleeplessness and sobbing (literally tears) The birds sang the sweetest words from the treetops The branches swayed from the felicity of their melodies And my heart was infatuated And the breeze blew gently carrying their beautiful sound As the flowers emanated the fragrance of longing And the brook sang along with them The air filled with tenderness sending away my longing and disgrace Oh how I hope his affection and love and favor will be mine He's happy with his handsomeness and youth, devoid of sorrows If he was in love, sleepless, feeling what I feel He would cry from his torment and wail along with the crying birds (literally, the curlew, which apparently is a bird that makes a crying sound, we don
